Ms Kilcline has already informed you to continue with the work left. Going forward, I have already set up my 6th and 5th year English classes as “Teams” in Microsoft 365 and have emailed you. Please check your emails, as some of you have not done so yet.

I can be contacted by email jross@scoilmhuirelongford.ie for anyone who needs help, needs to ask a question or is sending on work to be corrected.

First Year
  • Start preparing for your Oral Assessment taking place before the Summer. This assessment can be on any subject matter of your choice and has to be at least one minute long. This is worth 10% of your Summer Grade.
  • Read “Girl Missing” up to chapter 30. Go to the attached link, Girl Missing Student Workbook and complete the following questions:
  • Chapter 16, page 37/38 Qs. 1,2,4,5.
  • Chapter 17, page 38/39 Qs. 1(c), 2.
  • Chapter 18, page 42, Qs. 2,3,5.
  • Chapter 19, page 43/44, Qs. 1,2,3,4,6.

  • Chapter 30, page 59/60, Qs. 1,2,3,4,5.
Second Year
  • Start preparing for your Oral CBA 1, taking place in May; this result goes onto your Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement. This CBA 1 must be at least 3 minutes long and can be on any subject matter you choose. Pick something that interests you and that you enjoy talking about. You can use props, PowerPoint, photographs, etc. Work on audience engagement, practice with your family – voice projection, eye contact, etc.
  • Go back and redraft any work we have completed this year, eg, Letter to SE Hinton, book review, etc. This can be utilised for your collection of texts for your Third Year CBA 2.
  • Go to page 108 of “Fire and Ice 2”, read up to page 111. Answer questions 1-7 and do the “Create” exercise on page 111.
Third Year
  • Practice your papers, try to complete a paper in the 2-hour time allocation. Get through as many papers as you can; this revision will be invaluable.
  • Go back over your Mock and see where you made mistakes and try to improve upon them, eg. giving more detail, utilising further quotes, and ensuring to answer all elements of the question. Redo as much as you can.
  • Go back over your studied texts. We have the course fully completed, so it would only be revision in school from here on in. Revise your novels, Shakespeare and film, paying close attention to quotes and key moments.
Fifth and Sixth Year

I will be in contact with these two groups and have work given to them.
