Meán Scoil Mhuire are into the U17 Leinster final after an outstanding 3-1 win vs St Dominics, Cabra.
Cabra were an extremely impressive opponent with lots of technical players throughout their team, but our girls have shown over the season that they are capable of competing against any team and will find ways to win regardless of the opponent.
Captain Shauna put us 1-0 up once the game settled down, a mix up in the Cabra defence saw the ball find its way into the net. After the goal, Cabra played some really easy on the eye football, but they couldn’t find a way by an absolutely excellent defence of Emily, Grace and Cara. The girls went in 1-0 up at half time.
Cabra introduced a number of changes at half time but still our defence stood tall to any challenge. We doubled our lead once again through Shauna after a lovely through ball saw her place the ball into the bottom left corner. Cabra pulled one back a number of minutes later after a corner caught us off guard. Almost immediately after, Faye very nearly put us 3-1 when the keeper dropped her shot before managing to recover. However, Meán Scoil Mhuire came again through Sophie who let fly from outside the box, her shot was too powerful for the keeper and we went 3-1 up.
As expected, Cabra dominated the rest of the game but struggled to create much whilst Aoibhinn, in goals, dealt with anything thrown at her comfortably.
The final whistle went and the 3-1 result secured our place in the Leinster final where we will play O’Carolan College, Nobber (Meath). Date and venue to be confirmed. A huge well done to the girls who last year went out of the competition in round one of the knockouts, but they have grown and developed tremendously and fully deserve their place in the final.
