First Year Debate Final

Today in Meán Scoil Mhuire saw the final of our first year inter-class debating competition. Both teams made it out of their own class stage and then semifinals with the four first year classes, culminating in today’s final between Ms King’s 1B and Ms Keogh’s 1C. The motion was: ‘Weekends should be three days long’. Both teams fought well with some excellent persuasive techniques evident, and a great improvement in their rebuttals and refutations.

Our four fifth year adjudicators; Natalia, Sarah, Rachel and Rosín were very impressed by both teams. In her remarks, chief adjudicator Róisín commented on the confidence and research demonstrated by both teams. In the end the motion was narrowly defeated.

Congratulations to the opposing team of Hanna, Nicole, Anushka and Gloria(captain). The members of the proposing team were Ciara, Samanta, Emily and Emilia (captain). Thank you to the English Dept for organising this event, to Ms Keogh for acting as Chair, and to our Principal, Ms Cullen and Vice Principals Mr MacAodha and Ms Kearney, for their presence at this very busy time in the school year.
