TESS Anseo Attendance Initiative

Meán Scoil Mhuire is proud to be one of 60 pilot schools and the only post-primary school in County Longford to participate in the TESS Anseo Attendance Initiative for the 2025/26 school year. Whilst we have always promoted the importance of regular attendance, we are delighted to avail of Anseo, an actionable attendance tool for schools, as an evidence-based approach to improving school attendance.

Attendance Drives

As part of this initiative, we run dedicated Attendance Drives during the year to promote the importance of regular school attendance. Our first Attendance Drive took place from 1st – 5th December, where we launched our “Strive for 5” initiative. These attendance drives are run at different stages throughout the year. Students are encouraged to make their best effort to attend school every day. To recognise this commitment, all students who achieve full attendance in each attendance drive are rewarded with a special treat to acknowledge their excellent efforts. Rewards are also provided to the best-performing year groups.

Attendance Card:

Attendance Cards are used to highlight students’ attendance and explain if students are in Tier 1, Tier 2 or Tier 3.
(see sample Attendance card below).

Remember

  • If your child misses 10 minutes of school per day, it can add up to 1.5 weeks per school year
  • If your child misses 1 day of school every fortnight, this can lead to 4 weeks missed per year

With the Anseo Attendance Initiative, please make sure your child is in school every day and on time.

Working Together

Parents’ and guardians’ support of this Attendance Drive is pivotal, and we would ask everyone to check gov.ie School Attendance for information and advice on how to support student attendance.
