Our 1st year basketball team had a very enjoyable weekend down in Limerick competing in the All Ireland ‘A’ basketball playoffs. The magnificent UL arena was a hive of activity over the two days as the girls competed against the best A schools teams in the country.
While unfortunately the results didn’t go our way the girls represented the school admirably and battled to the very end, fighting for every ball. Our journey ended at the shield semi final stage against a strong Pres Kilkenny team.
The weekend wasn’t all basketball, the girls knocked great fun out of bowling and also managed to fit in a couple of hours shopping on the way home.
A massive thanks to Vaughans XL for their generous sponsorship of lots of drinks and snacks for the girls, to our jersey sponsors Herterich Butchers and Hanlons Gala, Kane’s Travel who provided our transport for the weekend and to the school for their contribution towards the weekend.
A special word of thanks also to the team’s coaches, Ms Flynn and Mr Sweeney, for accompanying the girls throughout the weekend and for all of their dedication and hard work with the group throughout the year.
We look forward to building on this experience and improving again for next year.
