Ms King’s 1st yr RE class took a short walk over to St Mel’s Cathedral this morning to reinforce their learning about sacred buildings. As part of the RE curriculum we learn about the features of a church building ie the steeple, altar, lectern, tabernacle, font and sanctuary, to name but a few.
We took some time to admire the beautiful building including the Harry Clarke Windows, the limestone columns, the barrel vaulted ceiling, the sculpted baptismal font and surrounding mosaic, the hand carved stations of the cross, the Holy Family Altar & Painting and the historic Baptistry.
We also took a few moments to just be in this sacred space, with its beauty and its peaceful atmosphere, in the middle of our bustling town.
