Day 2 in Palermo kicked off with a visit to the Church of the Gesu of Cassa Professa, famed for its paintings and architecture. After this we went to the Church of Saint Mary dell Ammiraglio, a Norman church, to look at its baroque architecture and Byzantine mosaic and then onto Chiesa di San Cataldo. Thankfully we have Mr Regan on tour to provide the history of Norman invasion and how, many churches students visit, will have Christian and Islamic influence and why. The girls got to sample local Arancine in the ‘ke Palle’, renowned for its authentic Sicilian cuisine.
One of our students,Isabel, turned 18 today so it was gelato all round to celebrate! The Castello a Mare was our final destination before we make our way to Barrafranca.
