A huge well done to a number of our Transition Year girls who took part in the school's first ever set of competitive rugby fixtures in Tullamore on Thursday, the 26th of January. Special mention has to go to Ella Jackson who scored the historic first try for the team in their first fixture. Despite the team coming up against schools where rugby plays a huge role, the girls consistently gave a very good account of themselves in their first outing and never backed down after every hit, they even managed to secure a historic win in their third game of the day.
The Transition Years have been working with Lisa Brady of Longford Rugby Club since September, taking part in two hour sessions every Wednesday from 2-4 to prepare themselves and familiarise themselves with the rules and regulations. A number of our girls have even started playing with Longford Rugby Club as a result of being introduced to the sport. A huge thank you must go to Lisa for her work with the girls, and also to Mr Dennigan who introduced rugby onto the Transition Year timetable for the term.
The addition of Rugby as a sport in Meán Scoil Mhuire means the selection of extra curricular activities available in the school is now even greater, giving students plenty of opportunities to get involved within the school.
Once again, a huge well done to all.
