Longford County Council Tour
Ms Rowley’s Second Year CSPE class attended Longford County Council on Thursday October 26th. They received a tour of the building and a tour of the Chamber Room where meetings are held. The students were given an informative talk on the role of Longford County Council by Councillor Gerry Warnock, Acting Director of Services, Michael Nevin, Longford’s Community Safety Coordinator Janine, Bartley and Community Sports Coordinator, Ryan Frances. The students and teachers thoroughly enjoyed the informative and worthwhile experience that brought their CSPE course to life!
Grow it! Cook it! Eat it!
Students from the Grow it! Cook it! Eat it! course enjoyed their class outdoors today. Under the expert eye of our guest gardener, Brendan Farrell, the students learned about planting and caring for vegetables in the school garden. We look forward to cooking our delicious, home grown produce in the late spring! Thank you to Ms Maye for all her efforts in bringing this project to fruition!
Science Week
There were many fun and exciting activities in Meán Scoil Mhuire this week to mark Science Week. The entire school participated in Drop Everything for Science on Thursday as all classes watched a short video about sustainability. Science quizzes and numerous competitions took place throughout the week also. Thank you to all the science teachers for promoting the week.
Green Schools:
Ms Daly and her committee of eight students were busy this week launching their Green School’s focus for 2023/2024. This year the committee are focusing on the emissions from idling vehicles and the impact such emissions have on us. On Thursday November 16th the committee recorded the duration of idling times on Convent Road and are now busy analysing their data. We await their results with enthusiasm.
