Six UCD Entrance Scholarships
We would like to congratulate six of our former Leaving Certificate students from the class of 2023, who received UCD Entrance Scholarship Awards in a wonderful ceremony on Thursday, February 29th last. Ms Lyons, our principal, was honoured to represent the school at the ceremony and commended the former students for their dedication, diligence and ambition. Congratulations also to our teachers who taught the students throughout their time in the school. Táimid an-bhródúil asaibh a chailíní! The recipients of the UCD Entrance Scholarships are Emily Bonsu, who is studying Radiography, Weronika Hapak who is studying Nursing: Child and General, Aisling Higgins, who is pursuing Business &Law, Kristina Ivanovska who is studying medicine, Grace Lyons who is studying Engineering and Daniela Rana, who is studying Arts and Humanities: English with Creative Writing. We wish these outstanding students every success in their academic pursuits and in their future careers!
Go Yellow Fundraising Campaign Launch
Our TY Go Yellow committee launched their national fundraising campaign to great success last week. The fundraiser which seeks to raise funds for NMH and CHI is now live on idonate, and across all social media platforms including facebook, X, Instagram and TikTok as well as on a bespoke website designed by the committee with the capable assistance of Mr McLoughlin, our Computer Science teacher. The fundraising initiative was covered by the Irish Independent on Tuesday, February 27th and Joe Flaherty, T.D. visited our school on Tuesday last to lend his support to the campaign. The committee are thrilled with the positive response to their ambitious project and are delighted with all the support they have received thus far. The Go Yellow day will take place on May 1st but the campaign had raised over €700 in the first four days after launch! Go n-éirí libh a chailíní!
Student Enterprise Longford County Final
Congratulations to our four TY mini companies - Scrubtastic, Ring A Bling, ACA Scents and SKMS frames - who represented the school so well in the Longford county finals of the Student Enterprise Programme. Congratulations to Scrubtastic who received a Special Merit Award for their enterprise. Well done to all the girls involved and thank you to Anna and all in the Local Enterprise Office for organising such a great event. Thank you also to their dedicated teacher, Ms O’ Brien for all the help, guidance and assistance she provided to all TY students who participated in this worthwhile and beneficial project.
First Year History Tour to Granard
There was great excitement as two First Year Classes embarked on an adventure to explore local history at The Knights and Conquest’s Heritage Centre in Granard on Tuesday February 27th. The students thoroughly enjoyed their guided tour of the heritage site and relished the opportunity to dress as knights and climb the motte located behind the centre. Thank you to the staff who facilitated such a beneficial and worthwhile trip and also a special thank you to Ms Boyd and Ms Devaney for organising the tour.
Victory for our U14 Football Team
Congratulations to our U14 girls who topped their group after defeating Mercy Ballymahon on Monday, February 26th. There was some excellent displays of football from both teams, which resulted in a draw after real time. The Mean Scoil Mhuire girls battled hard in the additional twenty minutes of extra time and came out deserving winners with a three point victory. We now advance to the semi final, which will be played before the Easter break. Congratulations to the team and their wonderful coaches, Mr Tynan and Ms Jobe.
Basketball Success
Our Second Year Basketball team had a hard fought win against Monasterevin in the Quarter Final on Thursday, February 22nd.. Both teams battled hard throughout, with only 2 points separating the teams at the final whistle. We look forward to the semi final. Thank you to their coaches Ms Hardiman and Ms Jobe.
